Cindy lives with her 11-year old daughter Charlotte in Olongapo City in the Philippines. The 30-year old never had an easy life. With her husband and her daughter, Cindy lived for a long time at her parents in one of the cities poorest areas. Her father was member of a drug cartel which is why he was imprisoned for numerous years. When he left prison, violence and drugs were part of the young family’s daily life. For this reason, Cindy’s husband decided to move with his family to escape the bad environment. They moved to a small house with a little bathroom – very rare for the Filipino lower classes, yet the family was happy there.

In 2016, Cindy’s husband went to prison for capital crimes. Subsequently, Cindy separated from him. The 30-year old now wants to take care of her daughter herself and decided to open her own business with a microcredit of 125 euros. She buys frozen foods such as hotdogs, tocino, longaniza and much more from a wholesale trade and sells these to neighbours and friends. She sells her products once a week, always on people’s pay days.
